Derby County manager Paul Clement has described Manchester United target Sergio Ramos as one of the best players he has ever worked with.

Clement left his post as Real Madrid assistant coach to take charge of the Rams earlier this summer and has worked with Ramos for the last two years.

He had previously worked with Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, and believes Ramos is among the best centre-backs he has coached.

He says United would benefit hugely from having the Spain international in their side.

He told Sky Sports: “He is a wonderful player, one of the best I have ever worked with.

“So many qualities, a fantastic footballer, leader, competitor, athlete, a fantastic guy.

“He is one of the best centre-halves in the world and I’ve worked with some good ones like John Terry, Thiago Silva at PSG, good ones in Pepe and Raphael Varane but Ramos is up there with the best I’ve worked with.”

Clement added: “Whether at Real Madrid or United, either club are going to massively benefit.”

United have reportedly lodged a £28.6m bid for Ramos.

The 29-year-old is currently involved in a contract dispute with Madrid, the team he has played for since 2005.

He is reportedly disgruntled at being allowed to enter the final two years of his contract without being offered an extension, while other members of the squad have been handed new deals.
