Fenerbahce confirm Robin van Persie signing from Man Utd

Fenerbahce have confirmed the signing of Robin van Persie from Manchester United today in a transfer reportedly worth £4.7m.
Van Perise, 31, had a medical with Fenerbahce yesterday as his move edged closer. Apparent late interest from Atletico Madrid and Valencia never amounted to much in the end with the striker’s move to the Turkish outfit proving fairly straight-forward.
United were keen to see the back of the injury prone striker, though were believed to be holding out for around £10m initially. But the club were desperate to get his £250,000 a week wages off their books to free up cash for other transfers.
The 2012 PFA Player of the Year and Footballer of the Year won the Premier League’s Golden Boot in successive seasons, including his first year at Old Trafford.
He finished with 58 goals in 105 games for United but struck just 10 times last season when he lost his place as the first-choice striker to captain Wayne Rooney.
Van Persie leaves amid reports of feeling betrayed by Louis van Gaal after not being treated fairly.
United are now in a much weaker position in terms of their strikers compared to one year ago when Van Gaal arrived – with that area now a priority position that has to be bolstered.
