Ex-Chelsea and Arsenal defender Ashley Cole has his contract terminated
Roma have terminated the contract of former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, according to The Guardian.
The ex-England international’s deal at the Stadio Olimpico was due to run until the end of the current season.
But Cole, aged 34, has barely featured for Rudi Garcia’s side in their pre-season fixtures and the Serie A side have now released him.
He was left out of a 26-man squad presented to the club’s supporters at the stadium on Friday evening ahead of a game against Spanish side Sevilla.
Cole joined Roma as a free agent last summer after his contract at Stamford Bridge expired, but played in just 11 Serie A games in the 2014/15 campaign.
The report suggests that Roma could make a move for Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Digne to replace Cole, with the 22-year-old Frenchman likely to move to Italy on a season-long loan.
There is no indication as to what Cole’s next move will be.
