Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the departure of technical director Franco Baldini by mutual consent.
Baldini joined Spurs from Italian side Roma in 2013 and headed up the north London side’s recruitment.
But his position at the club had been unclear since Spurs moved to poach Southampton’s then head of recruitment Paul Mitchell a year ago.
Mitchell had worked successfully with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino during their time together at St Mary’s, and his arrival appeared to undermine Baldini’s position.
The Italian has now left White Hart Lane, but Tottenham insist the decision was made by mutual consent and that Baldini will not be joining another club.
A Spurs statement read: “We can confirm that Franco Baldini has left the Club by mutual consent.
“Franco joined us as Technical Director in June 2013 from AS Roma where he was General Director. He leaves us now to spend time outside of club football.
“We wish him all the best for the future.”
The specific mention that he will be spending time outside of club football, rather than just outside of football, would seem to suggest that a role within the Italian FA might beckon for Baldini.
