Juan Mata admits his surprise at Man Utd’s ‘very bad’ loss to Arsenal
Juan Mata has admitted his surprise at Manchester United’s “very bad” 3-0 loss to Arsenal yesterday.
Louis van Gaal has also conceded he was amazed by his side’s humbling that saw United all at sea.
The Dutchman expected more from his side, who were top of the table before the latest round of Premier League fixtures.
Van Gaal accused his players of not performing to their gameplan and lacking fight. He said his side had given the Gunners too much space, which went totally against the work they had done on the training ground on staying compact during the game.
And Mata agrees with his Dutch boss that the display was nowhere what they’ve come to expect with him saying they were killed in the opening minutes.
Writing on his blog, the Spaniard said: “As you could see, everything went wrong in the first half. Before the game, our goal was to keep the top spot of the Premier League, but it wasn’t our day as we saw from the kick-off.
“Arsenal started with more intensity, they scored very quickly and with no time for our reaction, they scored the second goal.
“Not even 10 minutes have passed and things were looking very bad. A start like this from us is unacceptable; if we want to fight for big things, we must learn the lessons as soon as possible.”
