Karim Benzema admits he ‘laughs’ about rumours of Arsenal move
Karim Benzema admits he laughs about rumours of him potentially moving to Arsenal – with him declaring he has no intention of leaving Real Madrid.
The France international was again said to be the Gunners’ top striker target in the summer transfer window as they apparently looked to boost their attack.
Rafa Benitez was even reported to not be overly keen on Benzema with him preferring to either play Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale through the middle.
The Frenchman has also been in the spotlight after being substituted on a regular basis by Benitez.
The former Lyon forward has blown hot and cold during his time at the Bernabeu, sometimes one of the first names on the teamsheet – most notably when he formed the devastating ‘BBC’ attack with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2013/14 season – and on other occasions toward the beginning of his stint at Real struggling for regular starts.
Speaking of the rumours in the summer he says it was total nonsense and explains leaving Real would be a step down.
“I laugh about it with my brother and my friends. We wait for the media to come out with these rumours,” the Mirror quoted him as saying.
“In my opinion, I think that Real and Barca are the pinnacle in football. Why would I leave? I’m a starter for the best club in the world. I am happy; it’s that simple.”
