Carlo Ancelotti admits he is surprised by Chelsea crisis
Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has backed Jose Mourinho to resolve Chelsea’s problems but has admitted he is surprised by the crisis at the club.
The Italian was given the boot by the Blues after a dip in results despite having won a Premier League and FA Cup title for the club and knows all about the pressure that comes from above.
Mourinho’s position has been called into question following a nightmare start to the new season with the club having lost five games – with the Portuguese clearly feeling the pressure as shown by his increasingly volatile behaviour.
Mourinho’s decision to single out players by dropping them and constantly hit out at the FA and officials has led to increased negativity.
Owner Roman Abramovich has publicly given the manager his support but reports today claim he could now be given the sack if they lose to Liverpool at the weekend.
Ancelotti, though, does not believe that is the right course of action and says the club should stand by him,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I did not expect this crisis, but I understand the reasons for these problems. I think they are feeling satiated.
“Last year they won by a huge margin, and now they are more relaxed. Don’t worry, Mourinho will put everything back in order, he is the right man.”
