Liverpool have completed the loan signing of Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old centre-back had been on loan at Southampton, where he has struggled for first-team football in the first-half of this season.
His deal at St Mary’s has now been cancelled, with the player ostensibly returning to QPR before immediately being loaned to the Reds.
A statement on Liverpool’s website confirmed Caulker is available for selection in tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Arsenal at Anfield, with the relevant paperwork having been completed and the player registered in time.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is currently facing a central defensive injury crisis, with Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho all sidelined through injury and Kolo Toure also carrying a hamstring problem recently.
Toure is expected to be fit to face the Gunners, while Sakho is hopeful of making his return, too, so Caulker’s arrival provides extra cover.
Caulker, who has one cap and one goal for England, was praised by Liverpool for his willingness to commit to them at short notice.
