Swansea agree £12m deal to sell Jonjo Shelvey to Newcastle
Swansea City have agreed to sell midfielder Jonjo Shelvey to Newcastle United in a £12m deal, according to Sky Sports reporter Amy Lewis.
The England international, aged 23, is reportedly now due on Tyneside later today to undergo a medical with the Magpies and finalise his move to Newcastle.
Shelvey joined the Swans from Liverpool for an initial £5m fee in July 2013.
The former Charlton Athletic youngster has not been a guaranteed starter since interim boss Alan Curtis took charge and appears to have taken up the offer of regular starts for Steve McClaren’s side. That will give him the best possible chance of adding to his six caps by forcing his way into Roy Hodgson’s squad for Euro 2016.
Speculation surfaced earlier this week that Shelvey might be on his way to St James’ Park. At that stage, a £10m fee was mentioned but the Swans have now secured a bigger fee for him.
