Carlisle striker Gary Madine in court and bags hat-trick on same day
Guilty… on three counts of goalscoring
Carlisle striker Gary Madine had a bittersweet day yesterday. It began at Carlisle Crown Court, where the 20-year-old pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm. But the court appearance didn’t affect his finishing as he grabbed the first hat-trick of his career in a 0-4 win at Hartlepool.
The 6ft 3in forward changed his plea to admit punching and kicking Brian Mounsey at The Beehive pub in Warwick Road on February 27.
He said that “in a mistaken belief that he was under attack he punched out once at Mr Mounsey in a pre-emptive strike, using excessive force.
“When Mr Mounsey fell to the floor Madine made a reactive kick to the body with minimal force which caused no injury.”
Having been remanded on bail, he joined up with his team-mates for their away trip to Hartlepool and scored three goals. He also picked up a yellow card for taking his shirt off as he celebrated his first goal.
He was warned by the judge that he could face jail over the attack.
