Warrant issued for Anton Ferdinand’s arrest
WANTED: FOR CRIMES AGAINST DEFENDING. Nah, not really. Sunderland’s Anton Ferdinand has had an arrest warrant issued against after he failed to appear in court. The brother of England captain Rio could now be arrested and kept in custody if officers track him down before he hands himself in.
Ferdinand was due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Monday after he was caught driving while using a mobile phone.
But the ex-West Ham man – who already had nine points on his licence and was almost certain to be banned from driving – didn’t turn up and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
The court hearing related to an incident on July 13, when Ferdinand was seen driving his white Range Rover while using his phone on Newcastle’s Central Motorway, en route to the airport ahead of a pre-season friendly.
