John Barnes delays visiting his newborn child and wife to be a pundit on second half of Liverpool v Chelsea
There lots of ways a little baby can come into this world. But playing second fiddle to Richard Keys is not a pleasant way by anyone’s standards.
That’s precisely how Alexander Barnes arrived yesterday.
Dad John was busy being a Sky Sports pundit on the Liverpool-Chelsea match and missed the birth. He got a call at half-time to say that Alexander – his seventh child – had been born. But he opted to delay his trip to be at the side of wife Andrea and his son to watch a bit more of the action.
Keys said: “John Barnes has become a dad again. Baby Alexander weighed in at 7lb and 2oz. Do you want to go?”
Barnes replied: “I’ll stay for the second half.”
But by full-time he had quite rightly disappeared, with Keys commenting that “he should have gone earlier”.
