Dimitar Berbatov tells journalists: ‘Stop voting for me – I don’t want awards!’
Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov used his acceptance speech at yesterday’s Bulgarian Footballer of the Year to issue a plea that he doesn’t win the award next year.
Berba was picking up the award for the seventh time and wanted the voting panel of journalists to be 100 per cent clear: he doesn’t want to win it an eighth time.
He told the audience at the ceremony: “I prefer to see some of the younger lads winning the award. Please, don’t vote for me anymore.”
OTP would like to think this would spur even more journalists to vote for him next year, even if it is just to see what next year’s acceptance speech could possibly offer!
