Was Big Sam Allardyce sacked by Blackburn because he didn’t want to sign Geovanni and Kris Boyd?
The man from The Sun says ‘yes’
Blackburn reportedly fired Big Sam Allardyce after he clashed with the new owners over potential January transfer targets.
The club’s Indian owners Venky’s Group allegedly have their sights set on Brazilian veteran Geovanni, who has averaged more than a club every year since 2006, and Middlesbrough misfit Kris Boyd.
Ex-Hull and Manchester City player Geovanni was inconsistent at best during his previous Premier League stints and is without a club after leaving San Jose Earthquakes. Scotland international Boyd has flopped at Championship level since joining Boro from Rangers.
Allardyce was said to be shocked by the potential transfer targets being mentioned and made it clear he would not want either player in his squad. He was instead interested in sorting out Ewood Park returns for Rovers old boys Roque Santa Cruz and David Bentley.
The £5 million available for transfers would scarcely cover bids for one of those players. Rumours today suggest Big Sam was on the verge of quitting over the new owners’ meddling, but yesterday they ensured he would leave with a healthy compensation package instead.
