Berwick sack player over Neil Lennon bomb Twitter comments
Scottish Third Division side Berwick Rangers have sacked under-17 captain Kieran Bowell after comments he made on Twitter about the parcel bomb sent to Celtic manager Neil Lennon.
Bowell’s contract was terminated after he admitted tweeting that he wished the bomb had killed Lennon.
Berwick manager Jimmy Crease said: “I was very shocked when I was told about the remarks made. I don’t know a lot of the under-17s players, but I know this lad.
“I was very surprised at the player’s remarks – but Berwick Rangers completely distance ourselves from them.”
The club said Bowell had apologised and his Twitter account has since been closed.
