New Ratko Mladic banner upsets Australia’s Socceroo fans
Serbia supporters in Australia are the latest to put noses out of joint by unveiling banners in support of alleged Serb war criminal Ratko Mladic. At last weekend’s Euro 2012 qualifiers, Romania fans wound up their Bosnian counterparts with a Free Mladic sign that could yet have ramifications for the Romania FA.
Last night, at a friendly in Melbourne between Australia and Serbia, several banners in support of the accused war criminal were hung or held from the grandstands.
According to a News Ltd report of the match, ground stewards attempted to confiscate the banners. Four fans were arrested and seven were evicted from the stadium for disorderly behaviour.
Politics aside, both teams committed a series of goalscoring crimes and the meaningless friendly, contested by two teams featuring many second-string and young players, finished 0-0.
