The ultimate FIFA bribe: Argentine delegate wanted Falklands in return for England 2018 vote
Remember Julio Grondona? He’s the former Argentine FA boss and current FIFA suit who was recently featured on OTP when Diego Maradona implicated him in the coffee-doping scandal.
Now he has implicated himself in what would have gone down in history as the biggest bribe in FIFA history. Grondona has revealed that he wanted the Falklands Islands to be handed over to Argentina in return for backing England’s 2018 World Cup bid.
Grondona said: “I’ve never asked for something in my life, but with the English I did so. I told them: ‘Let’s put a quick end to it: you can have my vote for England if you return the Malvinas Islands that belong to us’. They were very sad but of this they haven’t said a word.”
He also denied he had been bribed to vote for Qatar’s 2022 bid.
