Who should we feel most sorry for after this: Hadjuk Split or Ryan Shotton?
After a backs to the wall job in Croatia, Stoke City secured their progress in the Europa League with a late goal giving them a 0-2 aggregate win.
At the time the goal was credited to Ryan Shotton, and many news reports are still crediting him with the goal. The 22-year-old defender was on the pitch as a substitute emergency striker. The local lad grew up just a few miles from the Britannia Stadium.
Unfortunately, it is pretty clear that the goal was actually an own goal, and the Uefa website has awarded the goal to Ljubo Miličević. But the nice story of the local lad securing a further European adventure for the Potters has proved too tempting for some news outlets!
On a further positive note for the Potters and the Premier League, Jonathan Woodgate came through the full 90 minutes unscathed and looked solid in defence.
