Video: Wojciech Szczesny helps Arsenal into Champions League with superb penalty save
Arsenal eventually secured a comfortable qualification for the Champions League group stages, but not before a nervy hour against Italian side Udinese.
Veteran striker Antonio Di Natale gave the Serie A outfit a first-half lead to level the tie. A crucial away goal from Robin Van Persie on 55 minutes swung the tie firmly in Arsenal’s favour.
But moments later Udinese were awarded a penalty after Thomas Vermaelen’s handball. A converted spot-kick would have left the Italians needing just one more goal to steal qualification away from the Gunners.
Keeper Wojciech Szczesny had other ideas with the superb one-handed save from Di Natale’s penalty.
Theo Walcott wrapped up the win on 69 minutes after miraculously finding an end product to one of his trademark blistering runs. And a quality finish it was too.
