Twit-twoo beat me up?

Football mascots are supposed to wind-up opposition fans, but Oldham mascot Chaddy the Owl was this week punched by one of his own team’s supporters.

Chaddy was assaulted as he posed for a photo with a young fan ahead of the midweek match at Preston North End.

The man inside the owl, Wayne Hurst, told the Manchester Evening News: “I was posing for a fan when out of the corner of my eye I saw this guy coming towards me. I didn’t recognise him and he hit me.

“He then just walked off to a group of mates and went to the bar. There were stewards there but I don’t know if they saw it. The stand was packed though so there were a lot of witnesses. I was all right but the kid I was with was a bit shocked.

‘I don’t even want him banned because we need as many fans as we can get. I just want an explanation and an apology.”

Of course, a real owl wouldn’t really be spotted things out of the corner of his eye. He would have spun his head round.

The Latics are hoping opponents Preston will be able to provide CCTV footage of the incident to help find the mystery attacker.

Oldham chief executive Alan Hardy said: “We’ve asked Preston for footage and would urge anyone who knows who he is to come forward.”

Based on the video above, OTP would like to venture that it was a revenge attack order by Santa Claus.
