Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson vows to sack Mike Phelan over secret stand naming
Phelan left out
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated 25 years in charge of the club on Saturday with a stand being renamed in his honour ahead of the match against Sunderland.
But the unexpected mark of the occasion could signal the end of the Old Trafford career of one of his backroom staff.
Fergie jovially threatened to sack his assistant Mike Phelan for not spilling the beans about the plans.
He said: “I didn’t know a thing about it. Mick Phelan knew and never bloody told me, so he’s sacked!”
The Scot’s mild curse was made a lot worse on the Sunday morning re-run of MOTD when they decided to bleep him.
