Wayne Rooney buys a horse at Manchester United team-mate Michael Owen’s stables
Michael Owen is a brave bloke. With little or no prospect of first-team football anymore, his horse racing interests are practically his main career now.
He is now letting Wayne Rooney wangle his way into his stables and ruin that for him too.
Rooney is buying a horse at Owen’s Manor House Stables in Cheshire after being impressed during a recent visit. Now it’s only a matter of time before Rooney’s horse snaffles up all the sponsorship opportunities, takes the place of Owen’s horses in all the big races and pretty much carts them off to the glue factory.
A spokesman for the yard told the BBC: “I can confirm that Wayne and Coleen [Rooney’s wife] have bought a horse.
“I can’t confirm all the details as yet as it’s very early stages.
“He’s been down here and obviously liked what he saw and he’s bought a yearling to go into training with us next year.
“If it’s the next Brown Panther [the stables’ most successful horse to date], that would be amazing.”
Naming would be a lot easier if Rooney bought a horse at the McCain: Red Card, Red Mist, Red Face etc.
