Liverpool Kenny Dalglish in pointlessly narky press conference shocker
Kenneth Dalglish, the great press conference raconteur, has yet again turned an innocuous question from a journalist into a talking point.
The Liverpool manager responded in his now customary passive aggressive style to a straightforward question about the role of one of the club’s hottest prospects.
The ‘controversial question’ was: “Kenny, what hopes have you got for Raheem Sterling?”
Dalglish responded: “My hope is you’ll have a bit of common sense.”
The comments section will probably soon fill up with irate Liverpool fans saying words to the effect of: ‘He’s only protecting a young player.’ But we’d like to preemptively disagree with you.
He could have just played it with a straight bat like most other managers would: “It’s early days. He’s got a lot of potential but it’s too early to get ahead of ourselves. Let’s just give the lad a chance to settle in the first team.”
That’s all it needed. Instead, as usual, he has to be rude for no reason at all.
It’s not like the journo – Ian Irving, by the way – had asked if Sterling should be going to Euro 2012 or anything remotely inflammatory.
OTP suspects that Dalglish is making life harder for him and his players in the long term with the over-defensive attitude and relentless siege mentality.
