Harry Redknapp: ‘Paul Merson told me he needed to go to the Sporting Chance clinic… and went to Barbados for a week’
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that Paul Merson once conned him into allowing a mid-season holiday to Barbados.
Speaking at the Soccer Saturday Live event, ‘Arry claimed that Merse had approached him during their time at Portsmouth and said: “I’ve got a problem with the drinking and the gambling and the women.”
The former Arsenal man asked for permission to go to Tony Adams’ Sporting Chance clinic for a week to straighten himself out. With Pompey not having a fixture for a couple of weeks, ‘Arry duly obliged.
But he was soon regretting his decision when he received a sighting of Merse on holiday on Barbados.
Sure enough he reported for training the following Monday with a suntan not befitting a stay at Sporting Chance!
