Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner given one-match international ban for sponsored pants
Denmark’s Nicklas Bendtner has picked up a one-match ban and been fined 100,000€ (£80,000) for revealing sponsored pants during his goal celebration against Portugal.
The Arsenal man lifted his shirt and lowered his shorts to reveal a pair of green underpants bearing the logo of bookmakers Paddy Power.
The striker is now set to miss Denmark’s first World Cup qualifying match.
A Uefa statement said: “This suspension applies to the next 2014 Fifa World Cup match for which Bendtner is eligible.”
Bendtner has three days to appeal the decision.
After match, Bendtner had said: “It is just a pair of lucky boxer shorts that I used in the first game as well and have used before the tournament.
“I didn’t know I was breaking any rules but I am aware of that now.”
