Motorway banner slams England fan for choosing Euro 2012 quarter-final over wedding anniversary
A few weeks ago OTP reported on a survey that suggested 10 per cent of England football fans believed that winning Euro 2012 would mean more than their wedding day.
As this wonderfully vitriolic motorway banner shows, one England supporter has inadvertently confirmed himself as part of that patriotic percentile.
The fan – known only as ‘Chris’ – decided to mark his wedding anniversary by watching Roy Hodgson’s men scrap it out against Italy, as opposed to a nice restaurant meal with his beloved wife. And the ramifications are just starting to hit home.
The banner – which opens up the classic country v wife debate – reads:
“Dear Chris. I hope the quarter finals are worth missing our anniversary for.”
And omniously finishes:
“Don’t rush back.”
If you would like to commune with the message yourself, take a drive along A38 between Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield for a very public viewing.
It was certainly a regrettable return home for the Three Lions squad, but we fancy that it wasn’t quite as awkward as it was for this fan.
We can only hope that Chris buys more than the obligatory duty free Toblerone to make amends.
We have no idea what Chris looks like, but we have a mischievous suspicion it could be this man.
