Chelsea’s Ashley Cole arrives on Twitter, slaps down Arsenal fans with immediate effect
Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole followed in the footsteps of Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney and co yesterday by joining the Twitter ranks – and it is fair to say he received a fairly frosty reception from Arsenal fans, who still feel somewhat tetchy about the defender’s acrimonious departure from the North London club.
Cole was devastatingly efficient in his reply, quickly drawing attention to the cob-webbed nature of Arsenal’s trophy cabinet and the never ending growth of his personal medal collection since his departure in 2006.
Sprinkling exclamation marks like grammatical confetti, the England international said: “I am what I am. Winnerr!!! 11 to me 0 for you!!!”
Attached with that comment was a picture of Cole holding aloft the Champions League trophy he bagged against Bayern Munich last May.
The one-two punch was completed with a retweet of the above image: a graphic that shows the 31-year-old drowning in silverware, including the FA Cup, Premier League trophy, and Champions League trophy. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s own count looks considerably less bulked out… well, empty to be precise.
While Cole’s character is certainly up for debate, that statistical fact is irrefutable. And given the transfer movements of both sides this summer, we wouldn’t be surprised to see that devastating graphic sting the eyes of Arsenal fans for another season.
