Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has meningitis, confirms Roberto Di Matteo
Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge is receiving treatment for viral meningitis.
The 22-year-old fell ill at the weekend and was taken for tests at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London. Rumours began yesterday suggesting the player might be suffering from meningitis, and that has now been confirmed by Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo.
The Blues boss said: “Daniel has viral meningitis. I have spoken to him and he feels better now. Hopefully he gets well ASAP.
“He felt unwell over the weekend and was taken to hospital afterwards.”
Sturridge, who has been named in the Team GB squad for the Olympics, is said to be hopeful of recovering in time to feature at London 2012.
