Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli wants to be a UFC fighter
We all have boyhood dreams that unfortunately never come into fruition. Mario Balotelli is no different. According to Super Mario, it was once his wish to take part in the Ultimate Fighting Championship – sadly he had to settle for the humdrum life of a multi-millionaire Premier League footballer.
The revelation came from the Manchester City forward earlier this week when he was asked which career he would opt for if he wasn’t spending his time parading his luminous mohawk in football stadiums across the world.
The mischievous maverick responded:
“If I wasn’t a footballer, I probably would’ve wanted to be a UFC fighter. I really love it.”
It’s a statement that gives an interesting spin on his second goal against Germany in the Euro 2012 semi-finals. Perhaps his memorable celebration – stripping his shirt off to unveil a set of abdominals a glockenspiel would be proud of – was an audition for the martial art that blurs the line between sport and entertainment.
Alas, with Mario Balotelli becoming very hot property in the footballing game of late, it seems incredibly unlikely that we’ll see the Premier League winner in the octagon.
Despite that sorrowful admission, it would appear that the Italian international does gets the chance to replicate his heroes now and again by booting someone in the face with minimal repercussions.
