Ex-Juventus star Mauro Camoranesi fined £40,000 for 1994 horror tackle
Former Italy international Mauro Camoranesi has been hit with a £40,000 fine for a foul he committed 18 years ago.
The World Cup winner has been ordered to pay the fine plus interest in compensation and damages by a court in his native Argentina.
The case relates to a tackle Camoranesi, then of Aldosivi, made on Alvarado’s Roberto Pizzi during a match in the regional Mar del Plata league back in 1994.
Justice finally caught up this week as Buenos Aires Supreme Court ratified the decision of a lower court to award the payment to Pizzi. In its ruling, the lower court had noted that “although it is not possible to describe Camoranesi’s action as deliberately intentional, it was incredibly clumsy… abnormal and avoidable.”
Camoranesi, now aged 35, is currently playing back in Argentina for Lanus.
