Wolves’ Kevin Doyle says Ireland players ‘taking the piss out of’ Sunderland’s James McClean
Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle told a press conference that the squad has been “taking the piss out of” James McClean after his controversial Twitter activity following Friday’s win over Kazakhstan.
Sunderland star McClean took to the social networking site to vent his frustration at being left on the bench, but Doyle says there has been no lasting bad feeling over the incident. In fact, he reckons it might have brought McClean closer to some of the squad.
Doyle said: “We said it to him straight away, you know, it’s not acceptable and he knew that as well. He realised that within minutes, you know, he tried to delete it and I think he’s shut down his twitter now and everything, it should be a help to him. But he was massively apologetic and we ended up the next day joking about it, you know it was fine.
“It’s been good because it’s probably got him integrated into the group a bit more because we’ve all been taking the piss out of him about it for the last few days.”
McClean will again be on the bench for the friendly against Oman at Craven Cottage this evening.
