Bet’s be ‘avin you: Betting tips for the 23-24 February
Buggery, buggery, buggery. Another week in which things get let down. Still no panic with £42 returned from the £50, and Crystal Palace highlighted the lunacy of their odds against in style, but Cheltenham’s inability to force a winner and Gil Vicente’s late defeat caused a great deal of hit to the bank balance.
Still, I’ve had a fantastic midweek with Burak Yilmaz, Rushall Olympic and Boreham Wood keeping me in Jimmy Choos, so can’t complain. Will hope to continue this non-league luck.
Bet 1 – Manchester United to win by one goal – 29/10 – £10
Sometimes as a gambler you spot a pattern that just comes along and grabs you. This season you may think that Manchester United’s typical method of victory has been coming from behind, and they have certainly done so regularly. However, more prolific has been the number of occasions they have won matches by exactly one goal. 39 games, 19 won by one goal. That should see odds of around evens, but instead they are regularly around the 3.5 mark. It worked for me on Monday at longer odds, so why not get involved.
Bet 2 – Newport County HT/FT- 5/4 – £20
The non-League is a great place to look for value on a Saturday, because with so many bigger games going on there is room for bookmakers taking their eyes of the ball. In the Blue Square Premier, Newport (fifth in the League, third best home record) host Telford (bottom of the table). Telford have not won in twenty games, a dreadful record. I’m going big on the home side.
Bet 3 – Halifax HT/FT – 6/5 – £20
A tier down football’s ladder, and one-time league side Halifax host Stalybridge. The home side have lost two of their last fifteen games, whilst Stalybridge have only won four times in this time. More importantly, two of Halifax’s last three wins have been 5-1 and 6-0. They may sit fifth in the table, but this disguises the fact that they have at least five games in hand of every club around them and nine in hand on the leaders.
Story so far…
