Cardiff City secure promotion to the Premier League, mount impressive pitch invasion
It’s official: next season the league known to most people outside the UK as the English Premier League will be one-tenth Welsh.
Cardiff City last night confirmed their promotion to the top-flight with a 0-0 draw against Charlton. That ensured that they will go up against south Wales rivals Swansea next season.
After the final whistle, Cardiff supporters launched a pitch invasion so widespread that very little of the pitch remained visible.
The result also prompted an emotional response from striker Craig Bellamy.
Asked if he had cried, Bellamy said: “I did, it’s been a tough year.
“To spend it with the people and to see them here today and to see my dad and my son, these are one-offs.
“You probably won’t be able to re-create this or get better than this, so I wanted to soak it up and enjoy every second of it.
“We’re going to be in the Premier League. What this is going to do next year to the club, to the city, it’s just going to be phenomenal. It’s just immense.”
