Liverpool join the hunt for Swansea’s Ashley Williams
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is set to continue his efforts to rebuild Swansea on Merseyside with a summer move for Swans captain Ashley Williams.
The centre-back has been in imperious form this season, sparking a reported £9 million bid from Arsenal in January.
That offer was turned down, and The Sun reports that a bid of £12 million would be needed to convince Swansea to sell the 28-year-old Wales international.
Whether Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, see that as a sound investment for a player nearing his thirties remains to be seen. Williams does have the fact that he was a boyhood Liverpool supporter in his favour.
Rodgers has already returned to the Liberty Stadium to sign Joe Allen and brought former Swans loanee Fabio Borini to Anfield.
