Premier League to use Hawkeye goal-line technology from next season
All Premier League matches will use goal-line technology from the start of next season.
Representatives of all 20 Premier League clubs ratified a decision to implement Hawkeye technology from next season. The Community Shield at Wembley is likely to be the first game in English football to use the technology.
Seven cameras dotted around the goal will track whether the ball has crossed the line. The decision, said to be accurate to the nearest millimetre, will be signalled to a watch worn by the referee.
The move could further blunt Wayne Rooney’s attacking potency. There are concerns that the Manchester United striker will spend all of his time in the penalty are screaming obscenities towards the seven new cameras.
