Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho picks kit man from obscurity
Rather a strange one this, but certainly one of football’s true fairy tale stories.
Abel Rodriguez is a 41-year-old Mexican who has a job cleaning underground stations in New York. A huge fan of Real Madrid, he has spent the last few summers volunteering as a ball boy for the club’s tour of America, and decided to spend his savings on a trip to Madrid to watch El Classico.
Rodriguez failed to find a ticket for the game, but was spotted by Real boss Jose Mourinho on his way home from training. Rather than simply sorting out a ticket for the tourist, Mourinho instead decided to appoint Abel as his honorary kit man, which meant that he sat on the Real bench for the game, met the squad and received a huge amount of signed memorabilia.
Mourinho even insisted that Rodriguez continued his ‘duties’ for the trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, even flying on Real’s private yet.
How amazing would that be?!
