Former Watford owner Laurence Bassini sends gloating text messages following their play-off defeat
Ex-Watford owner Laurence Bassini sent text messages to a local newspaper revelling in the club’s failure to win promotion to the Premier League.
Bassini, ousted when current owners the Pozzo family took over, hit the send button to text Watford Observer deputy group sports editor Frank Smith after the final whistle in the Hornets’ defeat to Crystal Palace.
He wrote: “How is the feeling in the town now? Ask Anthony (Matthews, the group sports editor) because for me the feeling is amazing.
“What goes around comes around. This is my happiest memory of Watford.
“Print this in the paper, Laurence Bassini.
“I have to go now and open the Champagne.
“All my love to Watford.”
He followed up with a further demand that his comments be published, and the paper duly obliged.
