Real Madrid confirm Jose Mourinho exit, pave way for Chelsea return
The worst kept secret in football has been officially confirmed: Jose Mourinho will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.
The Special One has been dropping hints for weeks and he is known to be short of allies at the Bernabeu, so the news that he’s leaving by mutual consent comes as no surprise.
President Florentino Perez told a press conference: “We’ve decided to bring our relationship to an end.
“Nobody’s been sacked, it’s a mutual agreement.”
Perez added: “The club and manager agree the timing is right to bring our relationship to an end.
“On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to thank Jose Mourinho for all his hard work.
“The team has improved in his three years and we wish him all the best.”
The confirmation is expected to spark a big managerial merry-go-round into action, with Mourinho returning to Chelsea, PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti moving to Real and one of several touted big names replacing the Italian in Paris.
