Video: 11-year-old Liverpool fan joins Chelsea’s Europa League trophy presentation
A young Liverpool fan desperate to meet hero Fernando Torres ended up becoming part of Chelsea’s Europa League trophy presentation.
Louis Kearns, aged 11, had been at the match with his dad. As Chelsea’s players made their way past Louis’ seat, he was desperate to get up close and personal with Torres and former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.
Moments later, the youngster ended up sandwiched between Torres and David Luiz as the players collected their winners’ medals. Uefa president Michel Platini did a double-take before deciding against giving Louis a medal.
Louis told the Liverpool Echo today: “Fernando Torres is my favourite player and I saw the opportunity and ran over to get a picture. I was made up to meet Torres and I spoke to him, John Terry, Eden Hazard and Michel Platini from Uefa.”
“I was gutted when I was ushered away because I wanted to touch the cup. It was boss but it would have been better if it was my team Liverpool FC – that would have been the best.”
Still, a pretty impressive 15 minutes of fame.
