Liverpool manager director Ian Ayre says Luis Suarez is still not for sale
Ian Ayre, Liverpool’s managing director, has reiterated that the club has no intention of selling Luis Suarez.
Speaking from Thailand during the Reds’ pre-season tour, Ayre maintained that two bids from Premier League rivals Arsenal had not persuaded them to consider parting company with their prize asset.
He said: “The situation with Luis Suárez remains the same. It’s never been our intention to sell Luis.”
The Gunners – and Suarez himself – believed their second offer triggered a buy-out clause in his contract. But Ayre and the Reds’ board believe they are within their rights to reject the offer after giving it consideration.
He added: “As has been widely reported in the media, we’ve received two separate offers from Arsenal for the player and we’ve rejected both offers.
“So, our situation remains the same and Luis Suarez remains a Liverpool player. He’s here in Thailand as part of our squad.”
