Liverpool want to loan Benfica’s Lorenzo Melgarejo
Liverpool are lining up a loan move for Benfica left-back Lorenzo Melgarejo.
The 22-year-old would join the Reds on a year-long deal to provide cover for Jose Enrique, with the possibility of a permanent move if he impresses during his time at Anfield, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Brendan Rodgers has previously been linked with a move for Valencia full-back Aly Cissokho. But he’s known to have a number of admirers so securing his signature is by no means guaranteed.
Youngster Jack Robinson is also on the club’s books but could be sent out on loan to get regular first-team football.
Benfica have a wealth of riches in the left-back department, having signed both Silvio and Bruno Cortez this summer. That means they would be prepared to let Paraguay international Melgarejo leave.
Any deal could be held up by the need to secure a work permit for Melgarejo, who is not a regular for his national team.
