Man Utd target ex-Spurs star Luka Modric as Cesc Fabregas alternative
Manchester United have lined up a possible move for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is they face up to the prospect of being unable to bring Cesc Fabregas to Old Trafford.
With Barcelona adamant that Fabregas is not for sale, the champions are now hoping to do business with their big rivals instead, according to reports in The Times.
Former Spurs star Modric has never cemented his place in the Real midfield since leaving White Hart Lane.
United have been linked with a move for the Croatia international at various points during his career, but his lack of decent goalscoring record has always convinced them to look elsewhere.
That remained the case this summer. The Times reports that the 27-year-old was not on David Moyes’ list of targets when he took charge. But with other deals not materialising and time running out before the transfer window closes, they have been forced to reconsider Modric.
A bid of £25m is likely to convince Real to part company with the playmaker.
