Pep Guardiola says Chelsea defender David Luiz will not be going to Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has rejected transfer rumours linking Chelsea centre-back David Luiz with a move to the European champions.
The Brazil international was said to be a £40m target for Bayern, but Guardiola has denied that.
He said: “He will not come to Munich. We have four, five centre-backs. I am very happy with them. The speculation is not true.”
The message was reinforced by sporting director Matthias Sammer, who said the club was putting its faith in former FSV Mainz defender Jan Kirchhoff.
He said: “We are not going to sign a new defender since we have already signed a defender this summer in Jan Kirchhoff.
“The decision not to sign a further defender is clearly to be seen as giving a fair chance to Jan.”
That’s good news for Chelsea fans, who are very fond of Luiz. The bad news is that Barcelona are still interested in him.
