Vincent Kompany senses that Manchester City are hungry
The problem with relocating Manchester City away from Rusholme’s Curry Mile is that good food just isn’t as easy to come by as it once was for the club’s players.
That’s the verdict of captain Vincent Kompany, who’s detected some hunger among the squad.
We jest, of course. Vinny is merely making the requisite pre-season noises about the players’ determination to regain the Premier League title and not their lack of a decent jalfrezi.
He said: “I don’t know, there’s just a sense in the team, sometimes you can just feel it, you can sense that this team is hungry.
“And, you know, there’s been a great group atmosphere, but at the same time we’ve worked really hard in training.
“It’s been really competitive, and I’ve got to say this is probably the sharpest I’ve seen the team in a long time.
“I know that the games and the results didn’t show it but that is only because in training we worked ever so hard and because the focus was on increasing our fitness levels.
“And I think anyone involved with the club knows that we didn’t do enough last year, so…”
Kompany also noted that new boss Manuel Pellegrini “looks like a very human decent being”.
Excellent news for a club that once welcomed Thaksin Shinawatra with open arms.
