Wayne Rooney “gutted” to leave Manchester United tour
Wayne Rooney has described himself as “gutted” at having to fly home from Manchester United’s Asian tour with an injury.
He wrote on his Facebook page: “Gutted to have picked up a niggling injury especially as training was going so well, heading back to Manchester to have it assessed fully but early indications are nothing to worry about.”
The wantaway striker left the pre-season tour yesterday after just one day in Thailand with the squad.
The England international was reported to have picked up a hamstring injury during a training session but, with Rooney having asked to leave United at the end of last season, fans were more sceptical about the reasons for his departure.
He has now sought to end speculation by updating the world about his injury.
Rooney’s Facebook post follows an official club statement that suggested he would be out of action for around a month.
The United statement said: “Following a scan this evening on a hamstring injury sustained in training, it has been decided that Wayne Rooney should return home immediately for further assessment and rehabilitation. It is anticipated he will be unavailable for selection for a month.”
