Arsenal back in for Man Utd’s Wayne Rooney as Suarez apologises to Liverpool
Arsenal are interested in a new move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney after their efforts to sign Luis Suarez collapsed.
The Gunners’ attempts to bring Liverpool star Suarez to the Emirates appear to be over after the player apologised to his current club and resumed training.
Arsene Wenger was widely linked with a bid for Rooney early in the summer, but that went on the backburner as they pursued Suarez and rivals Chelsea went all-out to sign the England international.
The Blues have had two bids for Rooney turned down and Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he has not yet given up on bringing the former Everton player to Stamford Bridge.
The Daily Mirror reports that Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has made an approach to Manchester United and held informal conversations with Rooney’s representatives about the possibility of a move. That’s despite the fact the United boss David Moyes remains adamant that Rooney is not for sale.
Rooney, aged 27, is believed to be comfortable with the idea of a move to Arsenal.
