Everton boss Roberto Martinez frustrated by Man Utd transfer rumours
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has voiced his annoyance at the constant transfer speculation linking Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines with moves to Manchester United.
The Spaniard seemed to indicate that rumours Baines had asked the Toffees to sell him to United are wide of the mark.
Martinez said: “It is getting a little bit too much at the moment. I think it’s not just here, up and down the league in every dressing room you get these sort of stories and I think we need to do something.
“I think we need to protect the league, we need to protect the players – it’s very, very unfair for the players.
“I think we need to be respectful to the fans. We need to try to stop all this transfer window business when the games are going on.”
Asked whether Leighton Baines has asked to leave the club, he added: “I speak with all the players, as you can imagine, and it is disappointing when you get so many stories going around.
“You’re questioning or you’re wondering where those stories are coming from, but as I say, there’s nothing to comment in those, two cases. We’ll carry on, we’ll carry on waiting until the window shuts.”
Former Everton manager David Moyes has made bids to take both players to Old Trafford for reunions with him.
