Gareth Bale will not play against Dinamo Tbilisi or Swansea, says Spurs boss Villas Boas
Tottenham manager Andre Villas Boas says star player Gareth Bale will not feature in the team’s forthcoming matches against Dinamo Tsblisi or Swansea.
The wantaway star was absent from Spurs’ Premier League opener against Crystal Palace yesterday. After the game, Villas Boas said the Welshman was still injured but refused to comment on his future.
Asked whether the team could perform without Bale, Villas Boas said: “The [way the] team performed, I just answered your question. The other question that you want to know and everybody else wants to know I’m not going to comment about.
“The player is injured and he’s not available for selection, and he’s not likely to start in neither the Tbilisi nor the Swansea game.”
Spurs face Dinamo Tbilisi in the Europa League on Thursday and Swansea in the Premier League on Saturday.
But Tottenham could have a new star in the form of striker Roberto Soldado.
Of the match-winner, Villas Boas said: “You know, to see him so confidently step up and put it to the same side as he scored against Espanyol was important for us.
“So, good to see him out there, created some chances, good to see the forward coming in with that hungriness for goals that he has.
“So extremely pleased for the work that he did.”
