Gervinho relieved to leave ‘ups and downs’ at Arsenal
Former Arsenal striker Gervinho has admitted he is pleased to be able to put the ‘ups and downs’ of his Gunners career behind him and make a fresh start at Roma.
The Ivory Coach international joined the Serie A side for £8m earlier this summer. He had failed to make a decent impression at the Emirates since joining from Lille for £10.8 in 2011.
And he admits he felt it was time for a move away from Arsenal.
He said: “It was a real pleasure for me playing for Arsenal, but after two years of ups and downs it was time for a change.
“Roma is a great team with a great coach. I had no hesitation in accepting their offer.
“I have always had a good relationship with Garcia – he has always given me confidence, and was the first to deploy me on the wing.
“I want to show I can contribute to this team. I am not in top condition at the moment, but Garcia knows me well and knows that I still have some work to do to get fit.”
