Man City want to sign Martin Demichelis from Atletico Madrid before he’s even played for them
Manchester City are planning a bargain basement bid for Atletico Madrid defender Martin Demichelis – despite the fact he only joined them this summer and has yet to play a competitive match for them.
The veteran centre-back played under City boss Manuel Pellegrini at Malaga for the past two seasons before moving to Vicente Calderon on a free transfer last month.
City will offer the Spanish side the chance to turn a quick profit by paying £3m for the Argentina international, reports the Daily Mirror.
Pellegrini is now desperate for defensive cover after Kolo Toure joined Liverpool and Matija Nastasic was ruled out for six weeks. Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott are currently his only senior centre-halves.
Real Madrid defender Pepe has been his top target all summer, but with that move seemingly in stalemate, Pellegrini is ready to find a quick-fix.
Demichelis signed a one-year deal with Atletico.
